Arming Women Against Rape & Endangerment

Defensive Shotgun

Do you keep a shotgun for home defense? Perhaps you have one for sporting use, and have wondered about its value in a defensive role.

For many generations, the shotgun has been a traditional tool for protecting one's family and home. However, few people have received the training necessary to maximize the effectiveness and safety of their defensive use of a shotgun.

Primarily range work, this class builds on knowledge from Responsible Use of Lethal Force. Special attention will be paid to the needs and requirements of women, and to how they can easily and painlessly shoot this ubiquitous firearm. The course is also open to men. It includes techniques and tactics that are particularly relevant to personal defense.

You are encouraged to bring your own shotgun and ammunition, but this is not a requirement. A limited selection of shotguns is available for use in this course, by prior arrangement.

During this course, you will:
  • Review the principles of the responsible use of lethal force

  • Shoot at multiple targets, and use multiple shooting positions

  • Shoot from behind cover

  • Learn to shoot buckshot and slugs without pain

  • Learn tactics for real-life encounters

  • Learn more about equipment and ammunition selection considerations
